Vacation Day 4: The Arrival & A Much-Needed Reset (Plus a Sweet Surprise!)

Day 4 was a bit of a reset for all of us. Everyone—my parents, in-laws, and neighbors—finally arrived around dinner time. It was a reunion of sorts, as we all gathered at the house to get settled in and catch up. The kids were thrilled to see their grandparents and neighbors, and the excitement in the air was palpable.

Instead of rushing off to do more activities, we decided to just hang out at the house and enjoy some much-needed downtime. It felt like the perfect way to settle into the vacation rhythm and get ready for all the adventures ahead. The kids played, and the adults chatted, with everyone enjoying the relaxed vibe of the evening.

We also tackled a little bit of laundry to get the house in order for the next few days. It’s funny how even on vacation, a little bit of tidying up can help everyone feel more at ease. Plus, it was nice to have things feeling fresh as we settled in for the night.

But the real heartwarming moment of the day came when my oldest daughter surprised me with a special gesture. She had been secretly planning something for me since my birthday and had enlisted my mom to make me a cake, since I didn’t get one on my actual birthday. She’d told everyone about her plan, and I was completely blown away when the cake showed up. It was the sweetest thing ever. I’m so proud of her for keeping the secret and putting so much thought into making my birthday special. It honestly made me feel so loved, and it was a perfect reminder of how thoughtful my little ones can be.

It wasn’t the most action-packed day, but it was exactly what we needed—a chance to breathe, reset, and prepare for the excitement that was coming up. Everyone was in high spirits, and we knew that the fun was just beginning.

Tomorrow, we’re off to LEGOland, so the rest of our trip will definitely be full of adventure!
