Our Attempt at Minimalism

Growing up, my mom had a sign in our bathroom that said, ‘Our home is clean enough to be healthy and messy enough to be happy.’ That phrase has stuck with me, and it’s a pretty good description of what I’m aiming for now. I would love to embrace more of a minimalist lifestyle, but these things don’t happen overnight. I keep reminding myself to be patient.

The clutter is a constant battle, despite our efforts to cut down on stuff. We’ve told family and friends — no birthday presents, no Christmas gifts, just experiences. But the stuff still comes. Consumerism is too easy these days. A couple of clicks, and two days later, there’s another package at the door. It’s hard to break that cycle.

I have no magic formula for how to stop the flow of stuff. I don’t have a minimalist home, not yet anyway. But I’ve been reading some really great books on the topic and have found inspiration there. Maybe it’s not about having less stuff right now but about finding peace in the process.
