After a solid stretch of “I should really get back into it,” I joined our town’s new Club Pilates. Back in my teaching days, I did a few years of mat Pilates — just me, a yoga mat, and some deep breathing. But Club Pilates? Whole different thing. There’s this contraption called a reformer (basically a sliding bed with springs and straps that looks suspiciously like … well, lets go with something out of a sci-fi movie), and I love it.
It’s been exactly the push I needed to start getting up again at 5 AM. Yes, five. In the morning. On purpose. There’s something magical about dragging yourself out of bed with the sun and moving your body in silence while the rest of the house is still asleep. Honestly? It’s helping. My core — which has been on an extended maternity leave — is slowly coming back online. I’m hoping my split core decides to close up shop in the next few months and return to its regularly scheduled programming.
I’m also hoping this strength work supports my marathon training. Core strength and distance running are besties, right? But let’s be real — the best part of this new routine is that it’s an hour of me time built right into the morning. No one is asking me for snacks. No one is yelling “MOM!” from the bathroom. It’s just me, some stretchy straps, and the quiet hum of early morning determination.
I ride my bike there — well, my e-bike, because the hill out of our neighborhood is absurd and I’m not trying to arrive already sweaty and emotionally defeated. It only takes about 4–5 minutes, and I always get prime parking (literally right outside the door!). The ride home is honestly one of my favorite parts — a calm moment to myself before the day really begins. Bonus = I get to go down the hill I went up ha.
In other exciting news, our kitchen remodel is almost done! I can’t wait to share photos soon. We are so close to the finish line, and I’m beyond ready to get back into our usual routine — fewer contractors, more countertops, and meals that don’t involve washing dishes in the laundry room.
Here’s to strong cores, smoother mornings, and settling back into the kind of rhythm that makes life feel a little more manageable — and a lot more caffeinated.
